Oksana Hus, the Development Officer at ACREC, conceptualized the Handbook of Best Practices in the Fight Againts Corruption for the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission.”
The purpose of this Handbook is to gather and analyze most effective anti-corruption practices impremented in EU member states, which can inspire similar initiatives in other countries. The Handbook describes 27 best practices (one initiative per EU member country), highlighting their positive impact on preventing/detecting corruption. Among them are both tried-and-true established practices, as well as innovative solutions.
The advanced experience compiled in the Handbook is grouped into 8 anti-corruption approaches. Each approach is theoretically explained and supported by illustrative case studies. The conclusion drawn from their analysis is that anti-corruption efforts are complex and nonlinear – therefore, on the path to overcoming corruption in Ukraine, we will be creating our own unique set of effective solutions.
Transferring best practices from one context to another is a challenging task that requires great consideration. The approach of this handbook is to focus on implementation mechanisms, taking into account the costs of such practices and the associated risks.
